Preeti Menon is the Co-founder, Co-President, and Executive Director of CICAU. She was voted in as the Board Secretary in January 2023. She is passionate about bringing collaboration and communication as important bases for the success of any initiative. She has extensive experience in training curriculum development, policy development and program operations as well as project management. She places emphasis on cultural appreciation and uses equity and inclusion lens to guide her work. Her professional work combined with personal life, including volunteering at her children’s schools has given her a drive to bring cultural education to young children. She aims to increase the social and emotional awareness of cultural diversity within children which in turn will provide them with a foundation for being adults with worldly backgrounds who have a positive outlook of those with different backgrounds.
Over the past eight years, she has been the Principle Investigator and Project Director for external funds at American University’s School of Public Affairs. She has partnered with several national organizations, including JustLeadership on a leadership training for formerly incarcerated, mid-senior level leaders working towards advocacy and community organizing. Prior to working at AU, Preeti was with the Department of Justice for 8 years and worked at both the Bureau of Justice Assistance and Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. She has co-authored and provided writing and editing support for research and analytical papers on treatment courts, criminal justice case management and integration.
Preeti holds an M.A. from John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the City University of New York, and a B.A. from University of Maryland. She is currently pursuing a Graduate Certificate in Social Justice from Harvard Extension School.
